Bottle Of Wine Fruit Of The Vine Lyrics
Help with 2 old songs about drinking..I think? Lyrics in details?
Okay, something made me think of these two songs and I cannot find them searching lyrics. It’s driving me nuts!
1. I want to go home
I want to go home
Lord how I want to go home.
(I think it says something else about being drunk)
2. Bottle of wine, fruit of the vine, why won’t you let me get sober…something like that
Just wondering if anyone actually knows these songs and the titles and who sings them. Thanks in advance!
First one is the Beach Boys, Sloop John B.
No clue about the second one.
“We come on the sloop john b
My grandfather and me
Around nassau town we did roam
Drinking all night
Got into a fight
Well I feel so broke up
I want to go home
So hoist up the john bs sail
See how the mainsail sets
Call for the captain ashore
Let me go home, let me go home
I wanna go home, yeah yeah
Well I feel so broke up
I wanna go home
The first mate he got drunk
And broke in the capns trunk
The constable had to come and take him away
Sheriff john stone
Why dont you leave me alone, yeah yeah
Well I feel so broke up I wanna go home
So hoist up the john bs sail
See how the mainsail sets
Call for the captain ashore
Let me go home, let me go home
I wanna go home, let me go home
Why dont you let me go home
(hoist up the john bs sail)
Hoist up the john b
I feel so broke up I wanna go home
Let me go home
The poor cook he caught the fits
And threw away all my grits
And then he took and he ate up all of my corn
Let me go home
Why dont they let me go home
This is the worst trip Ive ever been on
So hoist up the john bs sail
See how the mainsail sets
Call for the captain ashore
Let me go home, let me go home
I wanna go home, let me go home
Why dont you let me go home”
Second one is called “Bottle of Wine”
I typed ‘bottle off wine, fruit’ into google and it came right up.
Bottle of wine, fruit of the vine
When you gonna let me get sober
Let me alone, Let me go home
Let me go back and start over
Well, I’ve rambled around this dirty old town
Singing for nickels and dimes
Times getting rough, I can’t get enough
To buy me a little bottle of wine
Bottle of wine, fruit of the vine
When you gonna let me get sober
Let me alone, Let me go home
Let me go back and start over
Well, little hotel, older than hell
Cold as the dark in the mine
Light so dim, I had to grin
I got me a little bottle of wine
Bottle of wine, fruit of the vine
When you gonna let me get sober
Let me alone, Let me go home
Let me go back and start over
Well, the preacher will preach and the teacher will teach
The miner will dig in the mine
I ride the rods, trusting in God
Huggin’ my little bottle of wine
Bottle of wine, fruit of the vine
When you gonna let me get sober
Let me alone, Let me go home
Let me go back and start over
Well, pain in my head, bugs in my bed
Pants so old that they shine
Out on the street, I tell the people I meet
To buy me a little bottle of wine
Bottle of wine, fruit of the vine
When you gonna let me get sober
Let me alone, Let me go home
Let me go back and start over
Bottle of wine, fruit of the vine
When you gonna let me get sober
******
As recorded by The Fireballs:
“Bottle of wine, fruit of the vine
When you gonna let me get sober
Leave me alone, let me go home
Let me go home and start over
Ramblin’ around this dirty old town
A-singin’ for nickels and dimes
Times gettin’ rough, I ain’t got enough
To buy me a bottle of wine, yeah
Bottle of wine, fruit of the vine
When you gonna let me get sober
Leave me alone, let me go home
Let me go home and start over
(Instrumental Break)
Pain in my head, there’s bugs in my bed
My pants are so old that they shine
Out on the street I tell the people I meet
To buy me a bottle of wine
Woooaah
Bottle of wine, fruit of the vine
When you gonna let me get sober
Leave me alone, let me go home
Let me go home and start over
Waa-aah
Bottle of wine, fruit of the vine
When you gonna let me get sober
Leave me alone, let me go home
Let me go home and start over
One more
Bottle of wine, fruit of the vine
When you gonna let me get sober
Leave me alone, let me go home
Let me go home and start over
Let me go home and start over
Let me go home and start over”
