Red Wine Health
Doctor says to drink red wine for my health. I am not a drinker. Any suggestions as to what would be good?
First, know that red wine’s health benefit can be found also in red grape juice and red grape extract. It does not have to be wine.
Secondly, drink what you enjoy. Don’t force yourself to drink stuff that you hate. In general, 1/2 to 1 glass of red wine is good for cardiac health. White Wine has no health benefit as far as we know. There are many types of red wine. If you are a non-drinker, I would suggest to start with Pinot Noir in $20-30′s range – these are softer and easier to drink. Try Benton Lane ($25), Siduri ($25), WillKenzie ($30). You may also consider Zinfandel, which is also good for beginner drinkers. Cabernet and Merlot and Syrahs are wonderful but may be too overpowering for you. Go to a wine bar and do a wine flight – small glasses of 3-4 different wines — to see what you might enjoy.
All else fails, don’t worry about that advice. Eating healthy, exercise, quit smoking, cut down salt and caffeine will all help with your health.
