Wines And Vines
When and where were grape vines first grafted?

Wine has existed for a long time. Some bug made it generally required to graft good but delicate wine shoots on trunks of vines that would produce awful grapes, And Wine. But, I can find no record of this advance in agriculture.

It is known that grapes have been cultivated since 6000 to 5000 BC in Ancient Greece and that from this time considerable improvements were made by the Greeks.

It is highly possible/probable that grafting was practised from Ancient Times.

The introduction of Phylloxera from North America nearly destroyed French viticulture in the late 1800′s. Then Thomas V. Munson saved the day by grafting French varieties on to hardy native American rootstock, which is resistant to Phylloxera.
